Contractors

Partners in our industry's most important joint venture.

The Carpenters union represents one trade with many crafts. Our members touch every aspect of a construction project from foundation to finish; they’re frequently the first on the job and the last to leave. Our carpenters build houses, skyscrapers, hospitals, bridges, and more, in all cases providing the skill and experience that can only be developed with union training.

Carpenters

General carpenters provide the crucial foundation for concrete, exteriors, roofs, infrastructure, and scaffolding while also crafting fine trim and finish work. These professionals work with a variety of materials in every kind of structure; they are responsible for bringing blueprints to life.

NASRCC carpenters are skilled in laying out, measuring, cutting, erecting, and joining materials together. They are highly trained to work quickly, accurately, and safely, while delivering the quality of work contractors and their customers have come to expect.

Floorcoverers

Floorcoverers install a wide variety of flooring materials, including carpet, resilients, wood, laminates, and sport surfaces. Our floorcovering professionals are experts at estimating materials, understanding pattern layout, and safely and properly employing the industry’s many tools, adhesives, and fastening systems.

Interior Systems

Interior systems carpenters specialize in assembling complex systems such as acoustical ceilings, computer-access flooring, metal framing, wall partitions, and office furniture. Work sites are typically occupied commercial and public buildings, so these professionals are adept at minimizing disruptions to client operations.

Attention to detail is the hallmark of union carpenters. They carefully protect furnishings and adjust schedules to ensure tenants are not inconvenienced. Our interior system professionals solve mid-project challenges, and perform accurate work eliminating lengthy punch lists. Our members are trained to be productive and professional, resulting in a project done according to what the owners, facility manager, general contractor, and customer expect.

Shop and Millmen

Custom architectural millwork requires the work of an expert—a skilled professional who can craft fine woodwork, cabinetry, and décor in commercial, residential, institutional, and retail structures. These members fabricate and install decorative and functional elements, including trim and molding, cabinetry, ceiling treatments, doors, windows, exposed columns and beams, displays, mantels, staircases, and more. Our members are trained in all these skills, including the proper operation of intricate machinery.

Millwrights

Millwrights install, maintain, diagnose, and repair equipment such as compressors, pumps, conveyors, gas and steam turbines, monorails, and extruders. Our millwrights can be found performing mission-critical work at coal, gas, nuclear, and alternative-energy power plants. Their skills are also vital in industries as diverse as automotive, aerospace, food processing, and pharmaceuticals.

Precision is a critical skill for millwrights, who sometimes work with specifications requiring tolerances to a thousandth of an inch. Ongoing training and skill-enhancement classes ensure members are expert in the use of tools and instruments.

Piledrivers

Piledrivers drive steel, concrete, or wood piling into the earth during the early stages of construction. Skill is crucial to both a project’s success and the safety of workers, since the piling is necessary to hold back the earth during excavations; to set up the foundation of skyscrapers, highways, and bridges; and to build docks and wharfs.

Our piledrivers are experts in all aspects of this challenging job, beginning with pre-installation inspections of the material and job site using static and dynamic testing. They are skilled at determining load-carrying capacities, gauging hammer performance, and accommodating lateral, compression, or tension loads.

Some piledrivers are also commercial divers, responsible for the underwater construction required by many industries, including construction and power generation.

Residential Carpenters

The residential carpenter is an all-around carpenter with experience in nearly every aspect of residential construction. These UBC professionals work expertly and efficiently to assemble and erect the framework of homes, apartments, and condos. They install flooring, windows, doors, interior trim, cabinetry, roofing, siding, insulation, drywall, and more.

Residential carpentry in the UBC focuses on providing our contractors with experts in new building products and the new styles, tools and technology in today’s housing industry. They are also equipped with state-of-the-art training to ensure maximum productivity and safety on the job.

Building a Stronger Future, Together

While some wait for the future to come to them, the North Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters is taking steps now to proactively shape where we go next. And, just as a building begins with a blueprint, our future begins with a shared vision.
