A strong union needs skills, benefits and ACTION!
Governor Maura Healey, Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll, Secretary of Labor Lauren Jones, and some of their staffs toured the North Atlantic States Carpenters Training Center in Millbury today to get a first-hand glimpse of comprehensive craft skills training.
The tour was led by NASCTF Assistant Executive Director Ziven Drake and included impromptu conversations with instructors and first-year apprentices. Following the tour, the group sat down with NASRCC Executive Secretary-Treasurer Joe Byrne and other union and training fund staff to discuss industry issues.
“Anytime a governor, lieutenant governor and labor secretary visit our training centers and talk with our members and instructors, it’s a great opportunity for us to show the value of what we do,” said Byrne. “Governor Healey and her team have been very open to conversations with us and have involved our members in working groups or committees where our voices can be heard. That’s what we expect and hope for with elected officials, so we appreciate that.”
