From Making Pizzas to Making Buildings!
Darius Wright was working at a pizza shop in Utica, NY, when a life-changing opportunity presented itself. Overhearing a conversation about the Carpenters Union recruiting, he decided to explore a new path that would ultimately transform his future.
Under the guidance of Local 277 Business Representative Deli Vargas, Darius entered the Carpenters union apprenticeship program. Over four years of hard work and dedication, he honed his skills and emerged as a proud, skilled union carpenter. Today, Darius is contributing to projects that are shaping New York’s future. Major projects in the area include the I-81 corridor redevelopment, the Micron semiconductor facility near Syracuse and the new Buffalo Bills stadium.
Darius’s story exemplifies how the Carpenters union opens doors to rewarding careers while helping meet the demands of a rapidly evolving construction landscape. New York is experiencing an unprecedented wave of investment, with major projects addressing infrastructure upgrades, housing shortages, and renewable energy expansion. These efforts not only meet critical community needs but also create long-term opportunities for skilled workers to leave their mark on the state’s future.
