A strong union needs skills, benefits and ACTION!
Many of you were active in the union’s political action this year. We know this takes time and effort. You may have even been doing things that are inconvenient or outside your comfort zone. In these times, political action can also open you to negative reactions from other union members or people in the general public.
Political action is not easy, but you saw the value of participating. We recognize and appreciate your effort!
The UBC has always been an active political organization. Through political action, UBC members have established and protected laws, regulations and enforcement mechanisms that improve conditions in our industry and for our union.
Our political work does not end on Election Day. Elections are only the first step in lawmaking and government at every level. We hope that you will stay engaged to ensure elected and appointed government officials value our voice and prioritize our issues.
No matter what your party affiliation or opinions on other issues, we need union carpenters to speak to our government about union carpenter issues. We’ve identified our core issues and will communicate with you regularly about specific legislation, regulations or discussions we consider important to our future.
Again, thank you for whatever activity you joined this year, even if it was simply being registered and voting. Our vote is our voice but we intend to continue speaking out loudly for ourselves on more than one day a year.
Educated. Agitate. Organize.
In Solidarity,
Joe Byrne
Executive Secretary- Treasurer,
North Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters.
