A strong union needs skills, benefits and ACTION!
It was a full house yesterday at the IBEW in Dorchester for Boston’s Massachusetts Girls in Trades Conference Career Fair, exposing and recruiting young women to the union building trades. Over 400 students and instructors from 26 area schools learned about the importance of apprenticeship programs and the value in choosing a rewarding, life-long career in the construction trades. With over 30 booths from union trades, contractors and state entities and several workshops, vital information was provided to students about the purpose of unions, what each apprenticeship program entails and how they can apply.
Thanks to the NASRCC members who attended the event and spoke with the students, sharing their own unique experiences as union tradeswomen: Bre Rankins, LU 327; Makeysha Richards, LU 56; Margarita Santos, LU 2168; Angelita Velex, LU 339; Rebeca Saravia, LU 327 and Kelsey McCaffrey, LU 346.
