$162 million deal with Microchip Technology Announced

Congratulations to our Brothers and Sisters in the Western States Regional Council of Carpenters. United States Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo has announced a $162 million deal with Microchip Technology that will help it increase its production in the United States.

The funding comes from the Biden Administration’s Chips and Science Act and will create over 700 construction and manufacturing jobs in Colorado and Oregon. Of the funding $90 million will be spent on a facility in Colorado Springs and $72 million will be spent in Gresham, Oregon.

The CHIPS and Science Act spurs investments in domestic tech manufacturing to put Americans to work and ease supply chain concerns. All funding comes with requirements that construction workers be paid Davis-Bacon (prevailing wage) rates as well as “significant worker and community investments.” Micron’s construction of a new $100 billion chip manufacturing facility in Clay, New York is also be assisted by funding from the CHIPS and Science Act.
